Post-Adopt Wellness Care For Cats

Posted In: Feline Health & Wellness

June is National Adopt-A-Cat Month! One of the great benefits of adopting a cat or kitten from a shelter (such as The Humane Society of Missouri) is that they have often already received some of their recommended preventative vaccinations and are already spayed or neutered. But that doesn’t mean they’re done with veterinary care!

Scheduling a post-adopt wellness exam with our veterinarians allows a complete review of your new furrever friend's medical records and makes sure that there are no gaps in their wellness care. Additionally, you can discuss the type of lifestyle that your cat will lead in your household- whether they will be an indoors-only cat with no other feline visitors, or a cat who spends more time outdoors and/or socializing with other cats, in which case additional vaccinations may be recommended to keep your cat safe.

Your veterinarian is a great resource for helping ease the transition into a new home, acclimating to new four and two legged siblings, and can discuss proper nutrition and the best products to use to keep your cat parasite free.

Statistically cats do not go to the veterinarian nearly as often as dogs do- but this shouldn’t be the case! Be sure to schedule a post-adopt wellness visit and regular follow up wellness exams for your feline friends.

The Animal Medical Center of Mid-America has veterinarians at three locations that can answer questions about your pet’s health. Call 314-951-1534 or click here to request an appointment online.
