Prevention & Early Detection Through Diagnostic Wellness Testing

As with humans, early detection is the best way to prevent systemic diseases and other serious health issues in your pet, such as cancer, diabetes, liver or kidney dysfunction, etc. This can involve routines at home, such as checking for lumps, looking for changes in behavior, bodily functions, or mobility, etc., but should also involve regular wellness visits to your veterinarian.

Two of the ways we screen for these types of conditions are through intestinal fecal parasite testing, and blood parasite testing. Intestinal fecal parasite testing allows us to screen your pet’s stool to look for signs that parasites might be present, which can have devastating effects on your pet’s health if left untreated. Blood parasite testing allows us to check for traces of parasites in the bloodstream which may be otherwise difficult to detect through normal observation of the pet.

Some of these conditions may not be curable, but in many cases diagnosing them early can be the key to ensuring that treatment works to keep the pet comfortable and extend their lifespan as much as possible. We recommend that pets be seen for wellness exams annually, but as veterinary hospitals across the country are currently seeing longer-than-normal wait times for scheduling appointments due to the COVID-19 pandemic and staffing shortages, it’s important to schedule these exams well in advance.
