AMCMA is offering a special SNIP & Chip promotion for Missouri dogs and cats for the entire month of July!
Having your pet spayed or neutered is part of responsible pet ownership. Not only are these procedures helpful in preventing animal overpopulation, but they also prevent a number of health and behavioral problems for your pet. For instance, spaying a female cat or dog can prevent dangerous uterine infections, while neutering a male can prevent testicular cancer if done before 6 months of age. At the AMCMA and Humane Society of Missouri, we are dedicated to helping pet owners by offering low-cost spay/neuter programs like Operation SNIP.
And…now that it’s summer, more dogs are spending time outdoors and indoor cats may be more interested in making a break for it when the door is open. It only takes a second of distraction, such as carrying groceries or trying to corral children for a pet to escape your house or yard.
When an animal is found and taken to a shelter or veterinary clinic, one of the first things the staff does is scan the animal for a microchip. If they find a microchip, and if the microchip registry has accurate information, they can quickly find the animal’s owner. Microchipped animals are far more likely to be returned to their owners. In one study, microchipped stray dogs were returned to their owners at more than double the overall rate for all stray dogs. For stray cats, the difference in return rates was even more dramatic.
Keep your pet AND our community safe this summer and beyond!
